Wheat Class

Reading books letter for Reception parents

Year 1 phonics and sight words October 25

17/11/25

This week in Wheat Class we have completed our final week focusing on the Billy Goats Gruff.

In both age groups we have been focusing on our writing heavily this week.

In Reception the children have been focused on retelling aspects of the story, including describing the troll, as well as the goats crossing of the bridge.

In Year 1 we have similarly been working on retelling the story with our writing independently.

In Maths we have been focusing on 'one more' in Reception, and doubling in Year 1.

10/11/25

This week in Wheat Class....

In Maths we have been working on recognising differences in length in Reception, whilst Year 1s have been working on their mathematical language, ordering objects by length and recognising the difference between length and height. To this end, we have created different length paper chains, including competitions to see who can make the longest!

In English we have been continuing to think about the Billy Goats Gruff. Reception have been describing the troll and even creating their own monster paintings of a new baddie to live under the bridge. Year 1 have been hard at creating their own story maps of a new story for the Billy Goats, including of course a new and suitably scary villain!

This Tuesday was of course Remembrance Day, the children were all extremely well behaved and respectful during the two minutes silence, we, as you too should be, are very proud of the children for this. Later in the day we were also lucky enough to receive some visitors from Hops class with some precious family stories and heirlooms.

Thank you to Wheat Class for another extraordinary week, next week will be our final week covering the Billy Goats Gruff!

03/11/25

Welcome back Wheat Class, hope everybody has had an amazing half term! This week we have officially began our newest book, The Billy Goats Gruff. We have had an extremely busy first week!

Reception have been hard at work making some bridges for the goats to cross.

As a whole class we worked in groups to create a larger bridge to cross the treacherous carpet river!

On Thursday we had our family learning day, making some billy goat and troll puppets to put on a class puppet show!

13/10/25

This week in Wheat Class we have moved onto our newest book, 'The Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis!

We have done some exploring and learning in the outside area, making habitats for the Bog Baby

And then made some Bog Babies to live there!

In Reception our Maths focus this half-term has been the numbers 1-6, this week we have been learning all about 5.

Thank you to everyone who made it to the parents evening, it was lovely to meet all of you, and another thank you to Wheat Class for another excellent week!

We have been learning about how children are welcomed into the church through being Christened or Baptised.

We held our reception Welcome Service in church.
