Hops Class

Hello and welcome to Hops Class. Our teacher is Miss Swaine and our HLTA is Mrs. Hasted.

Monday, 1st June 2020

Good Morning Everyone, I hope you had an enjoyable half term break. The weather was lovely so Gravy and I spent a lot of time in the garden.

Planning for this term looks a little different to previous weeks, as we are using a themed approach to learning, we are giving you more choice of the activities you complete. The theme for the next two weeks is art. Hops Learning this week is based on the Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh. There are five maths activities to complete - I have suggested an order but you may complete them in whichever order you like. English and topic ones you can select the ones that interest you the most.

Today's daily challenge - take a photograph or draw a picture of your favourite flower - mine would be a rose.

Good Morning Hops Class. Its a bit more breezy today but the sun is still shining. I hope you all have an enjoyable half term next week and that the lovely weather continues. Today's daily challenge is to give someone a cuddle to say thank you for being there for you. It could be one of your parents, a sibling or a pet. Send me a picture of the moment and remember to Be Kind.

Good Morning Everyone, I hope you have a fabulous Thursday. The sun is shining again so hopefully it will be another glorious day. Today's Be Kind challenge is to make a daisy chain and give it to someone as a surprise. Keep the photos of you doing your home schooling and daily challenges coming in - I'm missing seeing your faces!

Good Morning Hops Class and welcome to another wonderful Wednesday. It’s meant to be hot today so make sure you drink lots and put on some sun cream if you go outside. Today’s challenge is another Be Kind one. After being kind to yourself yesterday, today you need to be kind to someone else. Leave a secret note somewhere in your house with a positive message on that will make someone smile.

Remember in a world where you can be anything, be kind.

Good Morning Hops Class. I hope you managed some fun in the sun yesterday. I’ve made no progress with my crochet due to having to unblock the washing machine! This week is mental health awareness week. During these strange times we all need to make sure we look after our mental health as well as our physical health. The theme of this year’s week is Be Kind. So send me a picture of you being kind to yourself - could be you enjoying your favourite snack, sport, food, tv programme, computer game or you having a bit of a pamper. Include the #Be Kind if you can.

Looking forward to the pictures.

Good Morning Hops Class. I hope you had a good weekend and had some fun in the sun. I made some bread this weekend, which was yummy, especially when eaten warm. Gravy has been lazing around outside and making the most of the sunshine! Today's daily challenge is a bit of a competition - how quickly can you successfully complete the sock challenge! Instructions and description available here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJY7kDJJrp0

Good luck.

Good Morning Hops Class, another sunny day so hopefully Gravy and I can spend some time outside again today. To make the most of the weather, today’s daily challenge is to go on a scavenger hunt.

Good Morning Hops Class. I hope you are all doing okay and making the most of the time outside. I have been busy doing some learning about Maths on the days when I am not at school with the key worker children. I have also been reading some books and finding some exciting new ones for when we come back to school. On Sunday, the sequel to Malamander arrived -  Gargantis. I'm about half way through and it's very good so far. Another mysterious stranger is wandering around Eerie on Sea! Today's daily challenge is to give me some more inspiration for reading - write a review of a really good book you have read. Send it in to me and maybe we could put some on Amazon for all to read.

Good Morning Hops Class. Happy Numeracy Day - today is a day to celebrate all things numerical. Therefore, for today's daily challenge I have a puzzle for you. How many cubes are needed to complete the cube?

Also, the yearbook is nearly finished! I just need all the Year Sixes to let me know their likes, dislikes (no more than two of each please) and future job.

Many thanks - missing you all.

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend - I got a bit confused by the days and kept thinking Friday was Saturday! This week should be SATS week and its not quite the same as normal. For some of you the test cancellation brings relief while to others it brings a sense of disbelief because of how hard you have worked. I just want to reassure all of you that we know how hard you tried with everything and to let you know how proud we are of all of you. Tests don't measure everything you learn and many skills that you all have cannot be measured by a test. At Milton we never needed to test to tell us all how amazing you are. (Year Five - we know you are pretty amazing too).

Today's challenge - re-create a front cover from a book and send a photo to me.

Good Morning Hops Class. Thank you for your pictures yesterday, lovely to see so many pets and nature pictures. I hope you are all doing okay. Tomorrow is VE Day and a Bank Holiday. I have put some ideas of things you may like to do to find out about this day but these are optional. Today's challenge is to make a Union Jack flag to display in your window for VE Day celebrations. Maybe you can have a party in the garden to celebrate. I've got my scones ready for mine!

Good Morning Hops Class. The sun is shining today so Gravy and I will be spending some time outside. Gravy has inspired today's daily challenge again. Take a picture of an animal or nature doing something unusual. I'll start - here is Gravy in the bath! I look forward to your images!

Good Morning Everyone, hope you are all okay. No progress was made yesterday crocheting - although I did make my circle slightly bigger. Today's daily challenge is to make a nature mobile. I was looking at the Leeson House website (where Year 5 should be sad ) and saw this activity on there so I thought it would be a fitting challenge.

PS Year Six don't forget your Milton memories and first day at school pictures please.

Good morning Hops Class - may the fourth be with you smiley! I hope you had a good weekend and are all safe and well. Crochet is progressing - I can make a circle now! Today's challenge in honour of Stars War Day is to make a star and fill it with positive words to keep you motivated.

From Miss Swaine

PS - Year Six when you send me your Milton memories could you type them if possible as it means I can cut and paste them more easily into the Yearbook format. Don't forget I'd like first day at school pictures too.

Good morning everyone, it looks like we might have a bit of sunshine today. We have managed six weeks in lock down now which seems unbelievable. You and your parents/ carers are doing a great job with your home learning. Today's challenge is to carry out a secret kindness mission - do something kind for someone without them noticing.

Sprinkle that kindness wherever you go.

P.S. Year Six could you email me a picture of you on your first day of school (if you have one) for the Yearbook. I know some of you didn't start school at Milton so you can select your first day at your original school or first day at Milton.

Good morning everyone - another wet day but never mind I'm sure we can all keep busy. During lockdown I have been trying to learn to crochet - Gravy has a lovely blue scarf but I'm not sure he's that impressed as its a bit wonky! I'll try to post a photo of him in it soon. So today's challenge is to have a go at something new - send me a picture of how you get on.

Lila's Amazing Find

Lila rescued a baby hedgehog that was near death. She revived it with some of Dot's cat food!

Welcome, officially, to the start of the Summer Term! I hope you are all keeping safe and well. It was lovely to talk to so many families on the phone over the Easter holiday and to hear that you are all okay. Today's challenge is to make a trail for someone to follow that leads to a nice surprise. It could be made using twig arrows showing the way to a cup of tea for an adult or clues to find a chocolate treat for a sibling. Have fun and don't forget to take a picture and show me your trail.

Good Morning Hops Class - I hope you had a good Easter holiday (if slightly strange). Today, should be an INSET day so some of you may not be home learning, some of you may be keen to get back into a routine. In these strange times there is no right or wrong option. In case some of you need entertaining, here is today's daily challenge - go on a rainbow scavenger hunt. Can you find something the colour of all the colours of the rainbow.

Friday, 3rd April 2020

Good Morning Amazing Hops Class - I've been so impressed by all the amazing home learning that you have been doing. I really enjoy seeing all the pictures and hearing from you all. Enjoy your Easter break - read books, have fun, carry out some random acts of kindness, enjoy being with your family, spend time outside, eat some chocolate and most importantly remember that Easter is a time on hope and with these strange times it is important to remain hopeful.

Today's daily challenge is to decorate an egg - could be a real one if you have any or a paper one. Theme for decorating is animals - can't wait to see how you do, remember to email me some pictures I love seeing how creative you are.

Happy Easter

Good Morning Hops Class, I hope you are all okay and managing a keep active. Will anyone be outside at 8pm tonight clapping for the NHS and key workers? Keep sending in the pictures of your amazing work, I'm enjoying looking at it all and I'm trying hard to reply to as many emails as I can. Today's challenge is the cardboard tube challenge - make a character from a storybook on a cardboard tube (or turn the tube into the character). If you haven't got a cardboard tube, make a cyclinder from paper.  I can't wait to see your creations - email me your pictures please.

Pinch, punch, first of the month Hops Class! Hoping that you are all okay. Today's daily challenge - draw a picture of something that makes you smile. Send me a picture so I can put it on the website to make other people smile. You could even put it in your window to make people smile on a walk.

Good Morning Hops, I hope you are all okay. Today's daily challenge is to find something in your house starting with every letter of the alphabet. All the items you collect must fit on a dinner plate though! I look forward to seeing photos of your plates.

Good Morning Hops Class, hope you had a good weekend and are ready for another great week of challenges and home learning. Today's daily challenge is to learn/ improve some life skills so I'd like you to learn to use a household appliance - could be the washing machine, hoover, lawn mower - something you've never used before. Make sure you have supervision doing it. I'd love to see any photographs.

Good Morning Hops Class, hope you are all okay. I'm really enjoying seeing pictures of all your work and receiving your emails - keep them coming. I'll try and put as many on the website as I can. Gravy has given me the inspiration for today's daily challenge  - I keep finding him in strange places (like the bottom of the wardrobe and under the washing line!) - so I'd like you to build a den (outside or inside) using whatever materials your parents will let you and have some fun in it. Send me a picture of you in it, (maybe with your pet in they are agreeable!).

Take care

Good Morning Hops Class. I hope you are all keeping busy and well. I'm really enjoying seeing all the work you are producing. I'll try to put some of it on the website today so you can all see the great home learning. The sun is shining again so fingers crossed it will be another great day of learning. Here is today's challenge - as an act of kindness make a hot drink for someone at home (not yourself!). Make sure you are being supervised when using kettles, saucepans etc. Take a picture of you and the drinker of  your drink - I'd love to see your kindness in action.

Good morning Hops Class, it's another sunny day today and I hope you are all staying safe and well. Today's little extra challenge - make a collage using natural materials. I'd love to see some pictures of your creations - email to the school office if you get the chance.

Good Morning Hops Class. I hope you are all staying safe and trying your best with your home learning. I thought I'd set you a little extra challenge today. I'd like you to write a list of ten things you are grateful for. Hope it makes you smile.

From Miss Swaine

Recently, in Collective Worship we heard that the rainbow is a sign of hope. Paint or draw a picture of a rainbow and put it up in a window in your home so that when people are out for a walk they can look for rainbows.
