Intent and Implementation
Our English Curriculum is weaved into our enquiry Curriculum, Curious City. The texts chosen are carefully planned so that they link to the enquiry question during that term. We believe this approach allows the children to immerse themselves into a subject as they can delve into further vocabulary, questioning and explanation. Therefore, they are not just writers, they are authors.
Phonics Scheme
We have implemented a new phonics scheme this academic year called Little Wandle. Please see the documents below that show the National Curriculum links and spellings.
Handwriting Scheme
In Key Stage 1, we follow the Little Wandle handwriting scheme. In Key Stage 2, we have created our own handwriting document using the ready to write criteria. Please refer to our document below for more information.
Year 5 Collaborative Writing Challenge!
The year 5 students from the Gillingham Dorset cluster schools, were set the task of creating a collaborative piece of writing. They were only given the first and last line from the previous chapter, which then gave the children the ownership and creativity to see where each piece of writing took them!
We were then lucky enough to have Kathryn Lamb, a local illustrator, create some wonderful illustrations for the story. Please take some time to read it below!
