Curriculum

The IMPLEMENTATION of our Curriculum

At Milton-on-Stour CE VA Primary School we strive to have an engaging and inclusive curriculum which will empower all children to reach their full potential. We teach the National Curriculum through a knowledge based cross curricular approach. We devised a new 3 year rolling plan in September 2019 which ensures that children cover the necessary curriculum knowledge. The topic titles are open ended to ensure that curricular knowledge in transferable across subjects and that it can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual class, moving from their starting points and tailored to their interests.

The new three year rolling plan can be found here and specific plans for these topics can be found on class website pages.

Phonics and Reading Schemes

The Collins ‘Song of Sounds’ phonics scheme was introduced in September 2019, this is taught alongside our main reading scheme of Big Cat Collins. There are supplementary reading schemes used for pupils who need additional practice and consolidation before moving on to free reading.

The INTENT of our Curriculum

To lay Christian foundations equipping children with skills to lead emotionally and physically healthy lives, with the ability to integrate into an ever changing society.

To ensure children become resilient, independent, life-long learners, enabling them to reach their potential across the whole curriculum.

To provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences through a cross curricular approach where pupils are encouraged to transfer their knowledge to a range of scenarios and embrace challenges to deepen their understanding.
